Generate Project Plans
Once the procedures and dependencies for the project plan have been defined, the Generate feature can be used to create an associated project and work orders.
When a project plan is generated, work orders are created for all procedures identified on the Procedures tab. If there are any dependencies, the work orders are marked accordingly, allowing for automated issuance once the dependency requirements have been met. In addition, an associated project that includes all generated work orders is created. As soon as the work orders and project are generated, the new project opens to the Schedule tab, allowing you to schedule the work orders.
Projects can also be scheduled for generation using available features in the preventive maintenance module. This means a project plan can be specified to generate at a given PM interval, just like an individual procedure. This allows you to generate a predefined set of work orders with defined procedures for a specified asset, rather than just the single work order typically generated in the PM process.
Generate a project plan:
-
Select the project plan you want to generate.
-
Click the Generate button.
The Generate Project Plan window opens.
-
Select the default asset to which generated work orders should be tied from the Asset field.
All work orders generated will be associated with this asset, unless a specific asset was specified for the procedure on the Project Plan Procedures tab.
-
To preview the work orders that will be generated from this plan:
-
Click the Preview button.
A dialog box opens, asking you to confirm your choice.
-
Click Yes.
The work orders that will be generated open in a Preview window. The work orders all show with the current date as the target date, as scheduling does not occur until the project plan is generated. They will likely display in reverse sequence order initially, as the last work order generated will show at the top of the list.
-
Click Close.
The window closes.
-
-
Click the Generate button.
A dialog box opens, asking you to confirm your choice.
-
Click Yes.
Maintenance Connection generates a work order for each procedure defined on the Procedures tab. A project is also generated that is associated to all generated work orders. Once the work orders and project have been generated, the new project automatically opens in a new window, allowing you to set a target date for the project and the individual work orders.
Once the new project opens, the Details tab opens, allowing you to specify a target date for the project and modify any other fields as needed. The asset specified when the project plan was generated is listed as the asset for the project. By default, the new project will be named using a concatenation of the Project Plan – Asset. This name can be changed as desired.
-
When you are ready to schedule the individual work orders, click the Schedule tab.
The Project Calendar opens, displaying all work orders generated on the current date.
-
To modify the target date for each work order, click and drag the individual work orders to the desired date.
To view additional information about the work order, click it.
You can also right-click the work orders and select Open Work Order or Open Work Order in New Window to further modify the individual work orders associated with this project.

Click Close.
